Slowly we are heading towards holiday season and that will mean we will take a little break during off season. Since there’s not really a clue as to when the new season will start, we will slowly go towards the moment the site will temporarily not get any new updates. For now we do have a nice clip. The question will always be coming up: charge or block? Lees verder “Charge or block?”

What is your call and why? – our opinion
It was good to see a lot of people reacting to this clip five days ago. It did however bring something to the surface: a lot of people want to use principles of advantage/disadvantage when calling for U-fouls.

What is your call???

We like to say everything can be prepared. The same goes for the stuff that is happening in the following clip. If you as a crew manage to maintain the rules (uniforms should be tucked in) you would not have to decide what’s happening and how to proceed in the situation. But now we’re here we’d like to ask you: How do you proceed, and while we’re at it: use the rules to clarify your answer! Lees verder “What is your call???”
Fiba Rules explained: dribbling
Can you explain to me what is a dribble?? And when a dribble is legal and when not?? It’s good to go back to basics and understand how things are phrased in the OBRI. Referee University posted a great video in which they explained the rule with examples and articles from the OBRI. Let’s make another step in being the best ref we can be as soon as our shared passion comes back alive in the open. Lees verder “Fiba Rules explained: dribbling”
What is your call and why?
At officiating’s cool we always say: if you cannot explain it, don’t call it. That’s the motto for this next clip too. There’s a lot to be said for all options we feel, so we would like hearing your call and argumentation. Owner of the clip is once again our clipping hero Sam Subby! Travel or nah Part II
That was fun!! Our clip about traveling or nah yesterday caused a very nice amount of readers to hit us with their opinions. Thank you for reaching out! It makes us very proud to read so many followers from all over the globe are liking what we do. This one is a travel/legal play situation again because we think it’s important to cover violations correctly. The best way to recognize violations is see a lot of clips, dissect them and understand what is happening. If you rewatch and rewind the clips while (online) discussing with your referee friends you’ll make the situations part of your package. When situations alike happen in your real life games (yes we think there will be hoops again one day!) your mind will very quickly react and recognize what happens and you have almost unconsciously covered the play right. Well enough talking for now: click to see the clip 🙂

Travel or nah??
While watching clips at Officiating’s Cool headquarters we noticed sometimes we are making errors in recognizing traveling violations. Spoiler: we might post some more clips like this in the upcoming days. But the question may be as simple as: are you calling a travel or not? Lees verder “Travel or nah??”
Violation or legal?
‘Hey officiating! You talk about covering violations and post clips about only fouls’ was the message we got last week and sometimes it’s good to be looking in the mirror. Therefor we found a clip by the amazing Sam Subby and the question is quite simple: ‘Violation or legal play’ ?? Please be so kind as to tell us why you pick your decision!
