U foul or normal foul?

Clips are a marvellous way to really understand the essence of what is happening on court. We sometimes get questions about the clips: it’s 3po and I normally do only 2po games. Good question. Let’s reward that question with a short answer: the situations occurring in the clips can arise no matter the number of refs on the court. Every game will have traveling situations or personal fouls.
In the clip below there is a foul too. The question is: do we call a normal foul or an Unsportsmanlike foul?? Share with us your opinion and off course: Why you pick this decision. Because: ‘If you can’t explain it, don’t call it’

Cover your violations!

We’ve stated before and it’s one of the things we’ll repeat from time to time. One of the tips to make your life easier on court is: cover your violations. You and your partners will benefit from it, not only because the players and will focus on themselves, but also: play will be more honest. We’ll get into that a little more later on if you guys want. To have you guys thinking about the topic we invite you to share your opinion about the clip down here: Violation or a no call? Lees verder “Cover your violations!”

So what do you have?

Sometimes it’s really difficult to decide what you should or should not call. Even when you have solid position and open angle on the play. To be honest: even when you can replay a sequense like the clip below it might be a challenge to come to the best decision. In any case: if you can’t explain it, don’t call it!

IoT Fundamentals

Individual Officiating Techniques (IOT) is the most important foundation for either 2 Person Officiating (2PO) or 3 Person Officiating (3PO). It is evident that in the past 15 years there has been a heavy focus
on 3PO (namely for the mechanical movements of the referees on the floor). This has led to a lack of knowledge in how to actually referee individual play phases in the game – this being the fundamental
skills that referees need to possess in order to process and facilitate the correct decision. Lees verder “IoT Fundamentals”
