No call? Or call?

We all know that not every contact should trigger a whistle right? But it sometimes is diffiult to decide where you want to go with no calls. Off course, some no calls are decided by the rules. Take for instance the no charge semi circle. Other situations are more difficult. That’s why we always bring in ‘no calls’ in our pregames, and we urge you to do the same.
That being said we have a nice clip for you guys. Do you think you should swallow your whistle on this play? (making it a no call?) or do you think we should call it?? As always: If you can’t explain it, don’t bother calling it. We are very much looking for an explanation behind your choise. Lees verder “No call? Or call?”

Cliptime! 5 second violations

We have been saying for years now that it’s important to cover your violations. Covering those infractions of the rules will give you and your partner(s) control of the game. We’ve pointed out examples like traveling or illegal dribbles, but there’s more. French referee ace Nicolas Maestre has made a great series called Lun10 Clips (Lun-dix, like lundi, french for Monday) where he covers several interesting topics. Even if you don’t understand french it’s interesting. You’ll see clips and you get the option to say it’s legal or illegal. The clip will be replayed and then you’ll see the clip again with a red traffic light (it’s illegal) or a green traffic light (it’s legal). Explanation is offered in french, but we’re sure that you all have a copy of the offical basketball rules on your device. This time: 5 seconds violations Lees verder “Cliptime! 5 second violations”

Eurocup Women First leg

Last week Eurocup women had their first leg of the finals. As we were in Berlin we missed it, and watched it yesterday. We can only hope that our participants from the same countries will reach such heights in the future. Lees verder “Eurocup Women First leg”

What will be your decision and why?

They say German Wifi is the Wurst. But still we do like to challenge you all who are not in Berlin. Today our Eyeopener Camp had its tipoff and as we speak the first pregames are already taking place, alltho it’s not before tomorrow that we will hit the courts. Interesting clip in the situation here down below, especially since you’ll see the lead referee make a new signal. But let’s leave the signal and just observe what is happening on the drive. Are you calling a foul here? If so: offensive or defensive? Or are you going for a no call?

Travel or not?

Covering your violations will make you get more control of the game. Players will start wondering: ‘Huh what am I doing?’ and start focussing on their own actions instead of giving you and your partners a hard time. And let’s be honest: if you’re not completely sure about a call it’s better to guess on a violation than on a foul. You don’t want to mess up 20 percent of a players life.
That being said: down below is a nice clip. Are you calling the travel or not? Lees verder “Travel or not?”

Are you calling a foul?

In 1992 the Olympic Games of Barcelona saw Team USA a.k.a. the Dreamteam take the world by storm. The marketing machine of David Stern propelled the NBA to a globally very profitable enterprise. The first game there was reffed by one of the coaches of our 2016 Eyeopenercamp. In the situation down below he’s on the baseline. You’ll see his partner on trail go way deeper than we do nowadays. Fascinating to observe vintage mechanics. But fouls and violations are still the same. So here’s a clip and we’d like to know: Are you guys calling a foul on the shot or not? And if not: Why not?
