We all know that a personal foul committed on a player in the act of shooting merites freethrows right? The point where an Act of Shooting begins is a bit less clear to some people. You often hear stuff like: ‘He was in his 2 steps’ or likewise. That my dear readers, is not the rule! The situation in the clip is difficult. Certainly if you don’t have IRS available to check the situation again. Still, major heads up to our man Sam Subby who has done an amazing job in clipping the worldcup. Normal foul or U foul?
Off course, not everybody that comes to this site has IRS but the situation shown in the clip, clipped by the great Sam Subby, is something that can happen on any level: the team that is down wants to stop the clock and commits a foul. Now is it a normal defensive foul or something else?? Let us know!

Tournament talk (2): Limfjords Cup

As promised before we’d talk a little about tournaments. There is hardly a better way imaginable to meet other referee-maniacs such as yourself. For coaches it’s great to work tournaments because there’s an immediate option for the coachee to work with the feedback given. And hey: tournament refereeshirts add to the fun too right? Teamwork?

If you go out of your primairy area of responsability, you interfere with your collegues primairy. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but you have to be very very very cautious to do so. Charge? Block? or perhaps even a flop?
The worldcup has given plenty of nice occasions to review, interprete and trying to understand what happened. You can never watch too much clips and analyse what happens. Sam Subby is the much appreciated clipper in this case. Lees verder “Charge? Block? or perhaps even a flop?”
Charge/block (2)
Another clip we got from Andrew is under the button. In transition it’s perhaps even more important to be in the place you have to be to see what you have to see. So always be prepaired and be aware of what might happen next. If you put situations like from this clip in your memorymap, you will be sure to call the right thing as soon as it happens. Charge/block?

Refresh: U fouls!
As you might have noticed last seasons: U fouls have changed a bit. Whether you’re a player getting more calls (or getting called more 😉 ) or a ref calling more U fouls, it’s always a good idea to get back to the rules once in a while, and check some videos. So here’s to article 37! Lees verder “Refresh: U fouls!”
Player down! It’s never nothing!
Last weekend I was on a tournament that featured teams and refs of all kinds of levels. We all have to work together on court, and sometimes I noticed players colliding or falling down following contact. And not a whistle was blown. Lees verder “Player down! It’s never nothing!”
